Solace — inventory defect analytics & automated chargebacks

A multi-tier analytics and chargeback platform that turns millions of inbound shipment events a day into vendor-level defect intelligence, then drives an automated fine-generation workflow with a self-service vendor portal and human-readable explanations.

01The challenge

Inventory receive defects — late shipments, short-shipped quantities, PO discrepancies — were tracked in fragmented, manual ways. There was no authoritative vendor-level view of performance, and financial recovery for defective shipments was a slow, manual chargeback process prone to disputes.

02The strategy

Architect a clean multi-tier platform with strict separation of concerns: streaming ingestion, AWS Glue for large-scale ETL, labeling and aggregation, OpenSearch for sub-second faceted search, and an API-first React front end. Close the loop by integrating the enterprise invoicing system to auto-generate fines, and integrate Sherpa to explain every fine in plain language.

03The execution

Consumed receive signals from upstream streams and normalized them through transformation stages joining shipment metadata, PO details, and delivery SLAs. Glue jobs and crawlers labeled and rolled data up into vendor-, PO-, and shipment-level defect insights, cataloged for governed access and indexed in OpenSearch. A React SPA gave vendors transparent, filterable visibility; invoicing integration generated fines automatically; Sherpa explained each one and suggested remediation — cutting dispute volume.
